1. Reading – the Basics of Writing

Writing and reading have long been considered related activities. Along with listening and speaking, they are considered the main components of the entire structure of the language. Many scientists believe that writing and reading are characterized by a higher level of proficiency in literate representation and the ability to solve problems. They also insist that the experiences, uses, and functions of writing and reading influence not only the process of writing and reading but also the relationship between them.

Students who read a lot can write well and vice versa. As students move to more advanced levels of learning, this relationship becomes more pronounced. So, if you want to learn how to write well, start by reading. The process of reading is simpler and will give its results in writing.

2. Don’t Use Too Many Descriptions

A description is one of the types of monologue author’s speech, the purpose of which is to depict a number of signs, phenomena, objects, or events that must be imagined simultaneously. There are the following types of descriptive texts: description-characteristic; description of events; description of the state of man, nature, process; description of the object, place, state (environment and person), description of the experiment. Their common feature is that their form is intended for image, display, and reproduction. This is usually facilitated by language design: lexical content, grammatical forms, and syntactic constructions.

Priority in the expression of the semantic structure of the text description is lexical and grammatical units: nouns of a specific name, qualitative adjectives, actually quantitative and collective numerals, verbs of present and past tense. Taking this into account, it is not recommended to use too many descriptions in writing, so as not to complicate the structure of the text and not to make it difficult for readers to perceive it.

3. Eliminate Redundancy

Verbosity, or linguistic redundancy, is a disadvantage that many student papers suffer from. We tend to use superfluous words that seem to us to reinforce, clarify, or soften what is said. However, if we critically analyze the written phrase, we may find that many words that initially seemed important do not carry a semantic load. Therefore, it is important to be able to identify and eliminate them in time.

4. Avoid Passive Voice

Most sentences in English are active voice sentences in which the subject (real subject) comes first. In the absence of a real subject, it is advisable to use the object on which the action is performed and the predicate in the passive voice. However, the number of such sentences still needs to be reduced to a minimum.

5. Don`t Overuse Adverbs

There are a large number of adverbs in the English language. Their use in written speech is fully justified since these words make speech more expressive, understandable, and coherent. But still, one should not abuse adverbs in writing, otherwise, this can lead to the meaninglessness of the text and its irrelevance.

6. Work in Silence

Writing in silence is more effective than writing in a group of people. By providing silence, it will be easier for you to concentrate, identify the key idea, and pick up strong arguments for writing a quality paper.

7. Mitigate Distractions

It is very difficult to work if there are many distractions around. It can be a TV turned on, an abundance of stationery on the desktop, a mobile phone with constant messages from friends, etc. To make the writing flow better, get rid of all distractions and start working in a calm and comfortable environment.

8. Master New Skills

To create truly high-quality original texts, experts recommend constantly developing your skills. This concerns not only writing skills but also reading, speaking, listening, etc. Do not forget about this and always strive to gain new knowledge and master unique skills.

9. Ask for Feedback

In order to objectively understand what texts you can create, you should ask for feedback. Reach out to friends, relatives, acquaintances, teachers, etc., and ask them to evaluate your writing, point out mistakes, and give advice. 10. Take a Break Before Editing
